A Mindless Drive

Down the road, these arid fields
Turn into waves of darkness—
Crash into the wincing light of my tin shell,
Flood the air, the sky, the night,
Consume the light of the waning moon,
Consume the glimmer in my eye—
And I forget that I’m alive,
That this is life—a ghastly sleep,
A mindless drive, a waking dream…
